Clothing Alterations & Custom Sewing

Your clothes should fit your life — not the other way around.

Sanctuary Sewing Studio is an alterations and custom sewing studio in Columbus, Ohio, built for every body, every size and every stage of your journey. Founded by Molly Walz, a Broadway, TV and film veteran with a decade in New York City, Sanctuary Sewing exists because everyone deserves fashion that fits the body they live in. We want to change the clothes, not your body.

Our Philosophy

You Deserve Clothes That Feel Like You

Most of us have spent our whole lives adjusting ourselves to fit our clothes. Squeezing into waistbands. Tugging at hems. Wearing things that almost fit. At Sanctuary Sewing Studio, we flip that. Whether you need clothing alterations on something you already love, a custom build for a once-in-a-lifetime moment or just a hem that actually falls right — this is a space where you can breathe, be exactly who you are and walk out feeling like yourself.

Formal & Everyday Alterations

From quick fixes to full reconstructions. If it’s in your closet and doesn’t fit as it should, our Columbus alterations studio can help. Molly has fitted bodies for Broadway, film and television — she brings that same precision to your closet.

Custom Wearable Art

Built from scratch, built for you. Formal wear, special occasions, queer weddings, gender-affirming pieces, that once-in-a-lifetime costume — whatever the moment calls for. Molly's custom work is rooted in professional costume design — she's built original pieces for regional theater and Broadway productions.

Quick Fit Alterations & Mending

Drop-off services for straightforward repairs and updates. The same eye Molly brought to Broadway wardrobe departments applies here — even a hem.

I am a trans nonbinary, large body human who was getting married and needed something to wear that made me feel and look incredible. I sought out Molly — and I’m so glad I did. She was an exceptional listener, took time to get to know me, and really used the inspiration photos I sent to make wearable artwork that made me feel just like I hoped I would on my wedding day. Entering Molly’s space for fittings was not intimidating or stuffy — her studio is warm and welcoming, and looks like it belongs to a dream maker. Molly hyped me up every time. Thank you, Molly, for the incredible piece you made for me and for contributing to the wedding of our dreams!

Clothes that fit the body you live in

For many people who exist in different bodies, their wardrobes have never felt worth investing time and attention in. Everybody deserves to enter a space, look in a mirror, and see the best version of themselves.

A Fitting Room Shouldn’t Feel Like a Fitting Room

No fluorescent lights. No strangers walking in. No pressure to look a certain way. Sanctuary is a private, one-on-one fitting studio in Columbus, Ohio — which means your appointment is yours, completely. Come as you are.

Working with Molly was the best decision I made for our entire wedding process. I had quite a few issues with my dress — things that could have sent a bride into a spiral. Molly made sure I stayed calm and confident the whole way through. She even nailed a completely custom sleeve I threw at her the last minute. I cannot possibly tell you how confident I am in sending any bride — or any human — who needs a great seamstress straight to Molly.
